I’ve also kept flight logistics in mind, offering a mix of Central American adventure to give your family the best of both comfort and experience.
RIVAS, NICARAGUA
A hidden gem along Nicaragua’s Pacific coast, Rivas offers a laid-back escape with stunning beaches, charming surf towns, and a touch of authentic culture. It’s perfect for families seeking relaxation with plenty of space to explore off the beaten path.
GETTING THERE:
Flights: You could fly into either LIR or MGA.
NYC - LIR has NONSTOP options
NYC - MGA has one connection
SAN - LIR / MGA both have one connection
LAX - LIR has NONSTOP options
Transfers: Rancho Santana includes your airport transfers when you stay for 4 nights or longer, so they make it as easy and comfortable as possible to get there.
LIR - approximately a 3 hour ride
MGA - approximately a 2 hour ride
PUNTA MITA, MEXICO
Just north of Puerto Vallarta, Punta Mita is a luxe yet laid-back enclave known for its calm beaches, upscale resorts, and excellent dining. It’s a seamless choice for effortless family relaxation with all the comforts close at hand.
GETTING THERE:
Flights: There are daily NONSTOP flights from SAN to PVR on Alaska Airlines and from EWR on United Airlines.
Transfers: The ride from PVR to Punta Mita is approximately 50 minutes.
SAN PEDRO, BELIZE
Set on the island of Ambergris Caye, San Pedro combines postcard-worthy beaches with a vibrant, walkable town and easy access to the world’s second-largest barrier reef. It’s an ideal spot for a balance of barefoot relaxation and adventure on the water.
GETTING THERE:
Flights: There are daily NONSTOP flights from LAX to BZE on Alaska Airlines and from EWR on United Airlines and JFK on Jet Blue. *If you prefer to fly out of SAN there are plenty of options with one connection.
Transfers: To get from BZE to San Pedro you would likely take a 15 minute hopper flight, then it’s a 10 minute ride from the airstrip to the resort. *Boat transfers are also an option, but logistically more complex and will take a bit longer.
